Magnetization of tools

There can be several reasons for wanting to magnetize your tool - or to put magnets on the tool. Here are some of the things we most often come across in our advice on magnetizing tools.

How to magnetize a screwdriver

It can be smart to make your screwdriver magnetic. Then it holds onto the screws more easily, so they don't fall to the ground while you screw. Here's how you can magnetize your screwdriver in 2 ways:

  1. You can attach a small magnet close to the screw tip - it can stick magnetically to the steel and does not need to be glued.
  2. You can take a strong magnet and run the magnet over the screw tip of the screwdriver 8-10 times to make it temporarily magnetic.

3 ways to use magnet on screwdriver

Here we show 3 ways you can use a loose magnet on a screwdriver. By placing the magnet very close to the screw at the screw tip, even a heavy screw can be stuck while you screw. If you just have to fasten small screws, you can also put a magnet a little further up the rod but still close to the screw head, and you will find that the magnet makes your screwdriver slightly magnetic. But you can also take the magnet and put it further up against the shaft and have extra screws close at hand. Then you can work smarter.

How to demagnetize a screwdriver again?

You don't need to buy special tools to be able to demagnetize ( demagnetize) your screwdriver again. You just have to give the screw tip a few blows and it will lose its magnetism again. Alternatively, you can  purchase a block which can demagnetize and remagnetize your tool as needed.

It can also be an advantage to use magnets to attach to tools other than the screwdriver. That is another way to magnetize tools by gluing a magnet so that your tools can be hung or put together magnetically.

Magnetic spirit level

Get your level to hang magnetically on steel beams, the car etc. Simply glue a magnet to each end of the spirit level and it's magnetic. You therefore do not need to buy one that is magnetic from the factory, but you can take the tool you already have, and then you can put magnets on your spirit level, ruler etc. The choice of magnetic strength depends on how much the spirit level weighs (the weight must be multiplied by 4 if you want to be able to hang it horizontally and vertically, to calculate the total magnet requirement), and you can possibly distribute the strength of magnets by attaching 3-4 magnets instead of 2. We recommend our glue magnets, but you will also be able to use self-adhesive magnetic tape for this if you choose a size that is as wide as the spirit level and cut in same length as your spirit level.

Bit holder with magnet

It can be an advantage to put a magnet on the bit holder or on individual bits so that they can be stuck on the drill or screwdriver. Single bits are usually made of magnetic metal, so they can stick directly to a magnet with magnetism. That is you can glue a magnet to your screwdriver and have bits sitting on the magnet. But you can also glue a magnet to the bottom of a bit set, so that the set can be stuck magnetically on metal surfaces or on another magnet.

If you need to attach single-bits, a rubber magnet can be smart because it can withstand a little more hard use.
