Description

Measure the direction of the poles yourself using a small compass also known as magnetic compass.

This model has a lanyard and a small handle, so you can take it with you on a trip and use it in nature too.

How to measure magnetic pole:
Hold the compass close to one of the flat sides of your magnet until the compass needle is set firmly on north or south.

If the needle points south:
A compass needle pointing south indicates a magnetic north pole.

If the needle points north:
A compass needle pointing north indicates a magnetic south pole.

The explanation of why the compass shows the opposite pole of the magnet lies in the fact that opposite poles attract, while same poles repel. It is quite logical, because when you have your magnet in your hand with, for example, the north pole facing upwards, and you hold the compass up to the other end of the magnet with the south pole, then the needle on the compass will point towards the pole that the magnet also points towards: north.

When you do not have magnets near the compass, it will show you where north and south are relative to the globe.

The compass itself is a small compass on size of a Danish 2 krone.

Sold individually.
