How to hang beer in the fridge
In March 2017, we attended a course with Rune from Ølhandleren.dk. He's a nice guy, but I'll get back to that.
During the break we discussed if it is possible to make something fun with magnets and beer ...
.. and of course it is!
Rune gave us a case of specialty beers to take home to the office (I told you he's a nice guy). And then we started hanging up beer in the fridge.
We then created this post and a video:
Can also be used for other drinks as long as the cap is magnetic!
We chose rubber magnets for our tests because they can withstand damp conditions, are gentler on bottles and fridge shelves, and can withstand the blows from the beer bottles when they are set up (broken magnets are not worth much)
The test showed the following
- The rubber magnets of 17x9 mm. (strength 3.7 kg.) could just manage to hold a 25 cl. beer, but they were a little too sensitive to fluctuations and movement, so we discarded them.
- The rubber magnets of 22x6 mm. (strength 3.9 kg.) held the small bottles of 25 cl. better than the 17x9 magnet, but they could not hold up to 33 cl. beer.
- The rubber magnets of 22x11 mm (strength 7.1 kg.) could hold and keep both 25 cl. and 33 cl. bottles hanging - even if there were movements in the bottles (see the video above).
Therefore, the 22x11 mm. rubber magnets take home the victory because they could keep all the bottles hanging without any problems.
Hang magnets on the fridge
You can attatch magnets to the fridge shelves in 3 different ways:
- Glue the magnets on one at a time under the shelf where the bottles (or cans) will hang;
- Attach the magnets to a magnetic wire shelf; or
- Place a supermagnet 20x10 mm. on top of the shelf and a rubber magnet on the underside of the same shelf.
Can also be used in kitchen cupboards to hang tins and cans with.
