We were contacted by one of our customers. He wanted to make a magnetic solution for a plate that will cover the "innards" of his wall-mounted toilet. And the solution had to be invisible to avoid handles, so that the plate could "blend" with the wall.
We came up with some different suggestions for solutions with magnets and magnetic tape; and a calculation showed that magnetic tape was strong enough for the task. So we sent 1 meter of magnetic tape with self-adhesive in 25 mm. width to the customer, and the result was really nice.
Because the magnetic tape sticks to itself - meaning that 2 pieces can be magnetically attached to each other - the solution was hidden, while it is still easy to remove the plate, because the magnetism is not too strong on the magnetic tape.
A total of 50 cm. of magnetic tape has therefore been used on the back of the plate that will cover the innards of the wall-mounted toilet, and then the extra 50 cm. magnetic tape was glued on an edge that is on the inside of the wall, where the magnetic tape from both surfaces has direct contact without a gap.
If you do not have the option of attaching the magnetic tape to a surface at the inside, it is also possible to make the front plate a little smaller so that there is room for magnetic tape along the edge - i.e. on the sides of the front plate and the corresponding sides on the inside of the wall. But remember to make room for the plate to be tilted free (or leave a small space without magnetic tape where you can get a flat screwdriver in so that you can tilt the plate off easily).
Please contact us if you need help calculating the strength requirements for your built-in toilet or other exciting projects. We will then make the calculations based on the weight and size of what is to be hung up. And then you will get some suggestions for magnets for your particular project.
