Mosquito net for the car - or maybe a curtain to block out the sun?
When you need to put up a curtain or mosquito net in the car, you should consider a magnetic solution - then you are not dependent on having to pinch the fabric in the car window and risk making the window and door trims crooked.
NOTE! Never put anything up in the window while driving that can block the driver's view - it is too dangerous. Use the solution for the side rear windows or when you are stationary and need shade and an insect-free car.
Mosquito net for the car
We already have other mosquito net solutions, but since the demand for magnetic solutions for the car has increased, here is a post specifically for cars. You can see a solution for the home here.
This is what you need to know before you get started:
Not all places on the car are equally magnetic. And there can also be big differences between car brands. But most cars have plenty of space on the side doors vertically, where you can put a strip of magnetic tape on the outside of the mosquito net, so that it sticks magnetically to the car door.
The easy solution
The easiest thing is definitely to take some magnetic tape and glue it to the outside of the mosquito net - it sticks well to the fabric as long as it doesn't fray (and mosquito net fabric rarely does). However, as mentioned above, this means that you have to find surfaces that are large enough to put the magnetic tape on, and it can be a challenge on the side windows if you want it all the way around. However, it sticks well to the sides (on the vertical surfaces) with the magnetic tape. And especially if it is going to be on the outside of the car, where there are several large surfaces to attach it magnetically (see photo no. 3 above)
The flexible solution
If you don't want to make changes to the fabric, you can also simply place rubber magnets around the curtain at approx. 20 cm. intervals. We have chosen to highlight rubber magnets for this solution, as they do not scratch, and you can choose a color that is similar to the color of the car.
Why 20 cm. distance? If the magnets are too close to each other, they will be attracted to each other too easily and end up sitting together in a lump instead of keeping the mosquito net stretched. You can easily place a magnet every 30 cm. with luck, but then it may be more difficult to stretch it completely. So 4 magnets can do the trick, but you will be happier with a solution with 5 or 6 magnets (depending on the size of the window).
The advantage of using the flexible solution is that you can use the magnets in several different places, as they are not attached to the mosquito net. But it also means that you need to keep track of where your magnets are the next time you need to use them in the car.
The more permanent solution
If you're a bit handy, here's our clear favorite solution: use sew-in magnets. Magnets for sewing are made with a plastic pocket, so you can sew the magnets along the edge of the net. Then the net is always ready to be set up magnetically, and when you need to fold it up, you'll be happy to be able to collect it with the magnets so that it takes up less space.
At the bottom of the page you can see the magnets we recommend for the mosquito net for your car.
Curtains for the car
This is where it gets very easy: the same things that we have written about the mosquito net apply to curtains. You can also use all 3 different solutions for curtains. But be aware of heavy fabric or fabric that frays a lot: here it may be necessary to sew a wider magnetic strip onto the fabric or use a stronger glue when gluing. You will also need some larger sew-in magnets for regular curtain fabric. But compared to the solution with rubber magnets, the same size is used for both solutions. So you can also use 16x11 mm. rubber magnets for your car curtain.
On the road
If you are going on a road trip through Europe, you may encounter traffic jams where it can be nice to put up the mosquito net temporarily, while still being able to roll down the windows completely. All 3 solutions with magnets can be used with open windows when driving very quietly. But only as long as it does not interfere with responsible driving. However, the magnets cannot be used when driving at speeds above 20 km/h. Here you have to roll up the windows so that the wind does not catch on the curtains or mosquito net.
Sunshade for shade on the back seat
Sunshades are also brilliant to put up with magnets - this way you avoid dirty suction cup marks or crooked door and window trims when fastening. And you don't even have to buy a fancy sunshade: a white cloth diaper or similar can also be used. But if it is for a child who can grab the screen, you should make a permanent solution so that there are no loose magnets that your child can swallow.
Enjoy, and please contact our customer service if you are in doubt about whether these 3 solutions will work for your car project.
