Summer offers many wonderful things - but also mosquitoes and other annoying insects. And they are fine for nature, but not so nice to have indoors. Therefore, a magnetic mosquito net (also known as fly net and insect net) can be a good solution.
DIY fly net for door
If you are a bit dexterous, you can sew your own fly net for window or door and put magnets on the net so that it closes completely when you go through the door. Some weight is needed at the bottom if it is to close automatically, so a good thing would be to sew a wedge at the bottom and put a metal rod in or maybe put some rocks with strings around it that can act as a weight bar so the net doesn't is so "flyvish".
Here is a solution with bar magnets:
We have used 6x13 etc. bar magnets - but you can also choose some bigger and stronger than that.
It is also possible to solve with magnetic tape, which closes the curtain with "overlap". However, it should only be used in places where you have time to help it into place, as the strips of magnetic tape just need to catch each other at the top or bottom for it to close itself.
Here is the solution with magnetic tape:
We have used 19 mm. magnetic tape with self-adhesive, which is easy to work with because it can be stuck directly to the fly net, but you can also make do with 12 mm. magnetic tape. And the glue strip is white, so it is "camouflaged" with your fly net or mosquito net where the strip is visible.
You can also choose a more elegant solution with wood, where you immerse some magnets in each piece of wood (remember to pair them so they attract each other before gluing them):
We have used 3 pcs. 6x6 mm. power magnets on the side of each wooden stick, which is 43 cm. in length. They are attached with double-sided tape from 3M.
Attaching the insect net to the wall
Once you have made your fly net with magnets, it rarely makes sense to drill holes in the wall for hanging the mosquito net, so you can consider using magnetic strips that you can remove when not in use - but still easily put back up when needed. The magnetic tape can stick directly to the wall and to the insect net. However, remember that both parts must be clean and dry, so that the adhesive on the magnetic tape can take hold. You can also combine metal with the magnetic tape if you already have some metal sitting on the wall or if you think it is nicer than the black magnetic tape. It will be visible with the black color, which is the magnetic side of the magnetic tape, when the curtain is not up - and you can not use our white magnetic tape for this, as the coating eats part of the magnetism.
Here we have used self-adhesive 19 mm. magnetic tape again. But you can settle for 12 mm.
It is also possible to fix hanging the curtain with metal and magnets. If the wall is white, you can choose a small metal plate and combine it with a white power magnet (or another color that the curtain has).
We have used a white metal plate 10x2 mm. and a white power magnets 6x3 mm . per point on the wall where the curtain must be attached.
Remember that the wall must be clean and dry so that the adhesive on the metal disc can take hold.
Drying time on self-adhesive
Always remember to let glue dry for 24 hours before seriously using your magnet solution. Then the glue is allowed to work its way into the wall and the curtain, so that it sticks well.
