Did you know that you can make a magnetic collector yourself?
With 4 strong pot magnets and a broom, you can make your own magnetic collector for metal, screws, beer caps, etc. It's smart for the yard, the workshop or the stadium, where you want to clean up metal scrap quickly and easily.
This video is in Danish but still easy to understand as Mia shows every step of the DIY magnetic broom.
For a small broom you will need 4 strong pot magnets. And if you have a larger broom, you can of course attach more magnets to cover a larger area. We recommend choosing a wooden broom because you can screw the magnets into the broom easily. But you can also attach the magnets with super glue (never hot glue for magnets).
In this video we have used the following:
- 1 broom w/broom handle,
- 4 strong pot magnets Ø32 mm.,
- 4 countersunk screws,
- 1 diagonal cutter, and
- 1 screwdriver
Remember to cut the hairs down to the same height as the magnets. And cut the hairs completely away where the magnets are to be screwed in. And if you're a little more professional than us, choose a larger diagonal cutter. But we've never promised anything else than being good at magnets... so bear with us if you see that in our videos we could have chosen a different tool (and then feel free to contact us so that we can learn more about that part too).
NOTE! There's no cheating in the video: this is what our parking lot actually looks like often, because many handymen come by and drop various metal parts. We live in the middle of a business district. So there was no need to stage anything. Everything was done in "one take", and the neighbour was happy to get both the saw blade and bit holder back.
Please let us know if we can help you with your magnet collector project, or if you have other projects that we should make a post (and maybe even a video) about.
