What can our hook magnets actually hold on a refrigerator? Of course, there may be differences in the types of metal your refrigerator is made of and how the surface is treated. But this test is based on hanging a tea towel, a bunch of keys, a towel and a bag and is a really good starting point when you need to hang things on the refrigerator with magnetic hooks. We'll start with the lightest things.
Hang tea towels on the refrigerator
We started by testing the smallest hook magnet (Ø10 mm). The tea towel weighed approx. 80 g and we were therefore curious to see if the hook magnet could hold it. When we put the tea towel on, it stayed on the hook - and there were no problems with the hook sliding down.
Result: Hook magnet Ø10 = perfect for a tea towel
Hang your keys on the refrigerator
Choosing a magnet for keys is a bit tricky, as it depends on the weight of your keys. But the bunch of keys in the photo above could hang nicely on a Ø13 mm hook magnet. However, we would recommend going up in size to a Ø16 mm hook, as a larger bunch of keys like this will be able to move a lot when you open and close the fridge, or if you slam the fridge door, and therefore Ø16 will be better for a larger bunch of keys. But if it is only a single key or 2, you can go all the way down to Ø10 mm.
Result: Hook magnet Ø16 = perfect for most keys
Hang a towel easily
We had two towels, one weighing about 250 g and the other about 275 g. Here we first tested with a Ø20 mm hook magnet, and it worked really well. The we got curious: could a Ø16 hook magnet handle the lightest towel or maybe also the heaviest? We tried, and were positively surprised. The magnet could easily hold the heaviest towel.
Result: Hook magnet Ø16 = fit for a towel
Hang a calendar with a hook
We had a booklet with A4 paper that needed to hang in a spiral - a bit like a calendar does. The booklet weighed about 320 g, and we therefore started with a hook magnet Ø20 mm. It worked really well. Maybe a hook magnet in Ø16 mm could also handle the booklet? It could easily, so you would be able to hang your calendar at home. However, it is best hung with a Ø20 mm hook magnet, as it can also withstand opening and closing the refrigerator with the calendar hanging on it.
Result: Hook magnet Ø16 = suitable for an A4 calendar on the side of the refrigerator.
Hook magnet Ø20 = suitable for an A4 calendar on the refrigerator door.

Which magnet is suitable for a heavy bag?
How strong of a hook magnet do you need if you want to hang up your heavy bag? The bag weighed about 1.5 kg and it was therefore interesting which magnet we needed. We first started with a hook magnet Ø32 mm, where the magnet was very challenged - it slid off the refrigerator. We then tried a hook magnet Ø40 mm, and the magnet stayed in place.
Result: Hook magnet Ø40 = ideal for a heavy bag
NOTE! Some refrigerator doors are made of very thin metal, and in that situation we do not recommend that you use hook magnets to hang up your things at all. This is because when you try to pull the hook down to remove the pot magnet, you may end up making a dent in the refrigerator door, because the metal plate is so thin.
Very light things
We have lots of designer hooks from Trendform that are not as strong as the regular hook magnets, so you can get 2- or 4-packs of hooks for a really good price, and where the strength is not that high, but on the other hand they are made with a non-slip coating, so they can easily hang tea towels, small key chains, towels, etc. up. But we do not recommend them for hanging a larger calendar, bag, etc.
